A Note of Thanks Using the Mondo Hydrangea set from Ellen Hutson

I have had this stamp set on my craft desk for quite a while now.  I bought it because I absolutely loved every single card that I saw on Instagram that used this stamp image.  I figured it was about time I gave it a go.

My Empty Nest Creations Thank You Card Using the Mondo Hydrangea Stamp Set

I started by black heat embossing the flower stamp onto a 4×5 1/4″ piece of Bristol paper (I used Bristol because I knew that I was going to be coloring with my Zig Clean Color markers).  I then cut a mask out of masking paper to cover the bloom so that I could black heat emboss a few leaves.  I really love heat embossing any image that I’m going to water color because the embossing keeps bleeding to a minimum.

I pulled out one blue, one yellow, two green Zig markers and my water brush and started coloring.  That’s another thing that I love about Zig markers…you only need a few to get different shading and dimension.  Once the flower and leaves were dry, I stamped the greeting from W Plus 9 Basic Banners stamp set with Faded Jeans Distress Oxide ink that matched the blue from the flower perfectly.  I found a scrap piece of blue Bazzill card stock and mounted the flower piece on top and then attached it to an A2 card base made from Neenah Solar White 110# card stock.  After stepping away for a bit, I decided that something just wasn’t quite right, so I pulled out a fine tip black marker and drew in the frame.  That was exactly what it needed.

Hoppy Easter

While trying to clean stuff off of my work surface, I came across some darling gold metallic bunny stickers that I got last year from the dollar section at Target.  I thought that they be perfect inside a shaker card.  I’ve only made one shaker card in my life, and it turned out better than I expected, so I thought I’d give it another try.

My Empty Nest Creations Gold Bunny Hoppy Easter Shaker Card

The stamped background was actually a piece that I made a few weeks ago.  I wasn’t really happy with how it turned out for the card I had planned, so I set it aside hoping that it would work for another card.  It’s Distress Oxide ink blending (Broken China and Cracked Pistachio) over white heat embossing using Simon Says Stamp’s Ornate Background stamp.

I cut several frames from white card stock scraps using Waffle Flower’s Lacy Layers die set.  (I just love how many pieces that set gives you.)  I used liquid glue to adhere them together.  With one of my last orders from Neat & Tangled, they included a darling set of sequins that matched perfectly with my card colors.  I stuck two bunny stickers together for each of the bunny poses and added them to the sequins in the shaker area.  Before gluing the top frame, I placed a piece of acetate in between and then glued the last frame on top.

Unfortunately, I don’t own any Easter stamp sets, so I used my computer to print off my card sentiment, and cut it out with W Plus 9 Basic Banners die.

Hoppy Easter!

CAS(E) This Sketch #262

I haven’t participated in a card challenge for a very long time, so I thought I would give the latest CAS(E) This Sketch sketch a try.

Here’s what I came up with…

My Empty Nest Creations Bright Floral Card using W Plus 9 Happy Wishes stamp setI have been dying to use some of the heat resistant acetate sheets that I just purchased.  I wanted to heat emboss my image and back it with an ink blended background, so I pulled out my W Plus 9 Happy Wishes stamp set and got to work.

First, I stamped the flower images and a set of leaves all over a piece of 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch Bristol paper using my favorite Distress Oxides, Wilted Violet, Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers and Twisted Citron.  The flower centers were stamped with Fossilized Amber and Spiced Marmalade.  After the inks were dry, I cut my Bristol piece apart leaving a gap of about 1 1/2 inches to make space for my embossed acetate piece.

Using a piece of scrap white card stock, I ink blended from left to right using Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean and Wilted Violet.  While letting that ink dry, I heat embossed the same flower/leaves images onto the acetate.  To adhere the acetate to the ink blended piece, I put liquid glue behind the embossed flowers and leaves so that the glue wouldn’t show through.

Once that was all completely dry, it was time to put the card together.  I adhered the inked flower panels with foam tape for some dimension.  After fiddling with the layout a bit, I realized that the window part of the card needed a little bit of balance.  I simply glued some very thin strips of black card stock on the edges.  I white heat embossed one of the sentiments from Avery Elle’s Simply Said: You stamp set on a piece of black card stock and cut the left edge at an angle to give it a little bit of interest.  Because of the addition of the black pieces, I felt that the card front needed a little more black, so I added the black flower centers all around the colorful flowers.  That seemed to balance everything out.

My First Cutsie Critters Card

For the past few years, I’ve seen these incredibly adorable “critter” cards all over the internet.  I have admired/loved them, but never had any darling animal stamps of my own.  Thanks to Butterflyreflectionsink and her tremendous sale, I was able to purchase some sets (and the matching dies) from W Plus 9 that I’ve had my eye on.  They are the Friends for all Seasons sets, and they are just the cutest.

My Empty Nest Creations card using W Plus 9 Friends for All Seasons stamps

I started with a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece of Bristol paper.  Using Hero Arts Soft Sky shadow ink, I stamped several of the animals in all directions on the paper.  I stamped them again slightly offset with Memento Tuxedo Black thinking that I was going to use Copic markers.  Once I saw just how cute the stamping was with the black and white, I decided to leave them as is and just do a light blue watercolor wash using Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and my waterbrush.

I stamped a couple of the animals on Bristol paper and colored them with my Copic markers, and cut them out with the matching dies.  My original thought was to just pop up the cut images with foam tape and place it on the black/white/light blue background.  It was just too busy.  The colored images didn’t really stand out, so I decided to cut a piece of velum using the Avery Elle Wonky Stitches die to place on top of the black/white/light blue piece.  (Before I cut it out, I ran it through my laser printer with a cute “from all of us” greeting.)  It softened the background just enough to let the colored images shine.  Because velum is such a tricky paper to adhere, I just placed some liquid glue behind where the colored die cuts were on the back side of the velum.  To finish, I white heat embossed the “Happy Birthday” greeting from My Favorite Things Birthday Bears stamp set onto black card stock.  As usual, I thought the card needed just a little bit more, so I added some Nuvo drops in a few matching colors.

You Color My World

I found this adorable chameleon digital file on the Little Scraps of Heaven Digi Designs website and just knew that he would be perfect for a cute valentine.

I started by printing my chameleon on regular white card stock and proceeded to color him with Copic markers.  I then fussy cut him and added some clear Wink of Stella to give him some pizzaz.  He needed a little bit more something, so I used my white gel pen to give him a few details.1_6_17-chameleo-valentine-img_0779

For the background, I ink blended (Abandoned Coral, Fossilized Amber, Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks) using the Simon Says Stamp Large Falling Hearts stencil–I just love that thing 🙂

I mounted Mr. Chameleon with foam tape and punched a heart with my Marvy Uchida heart punch.  I gave the heart a few details, and mounted it with foam tape so that it looks like the chameleon is holding it.

I gave it a couple of mats and attached it to an A2 Neenah Solar White #110 card base.

For the inside, I stamped “You Color My World” from the W Plus 9 Color My World stamp set.  I used a few Copic markers to color in the word Color, too.

I hope you like it!
